Do we want a Standalone or Network License?

Standalone License:

• The standalone license is intended for any machine that has the USB Key (HASP) plugged into it.  The license follows the USB Key.
• The USB Key (HASP) represents the entire value of the license.  If lost, an entire new license must be re-purchased.
• There can only be one user running the software at any time.
• The Groundloop Design software runs on the local workstation.
• The license manager software runs on the local workstation.
• The standalone software may be installed on an unlimited number of workstations.  The USB Key (HASP) may be moved from workstation to workstation.
• Moving the key from workstation to workstation allows more than one user.  Keeping track of the USB Key is more difficult than with a Network version.
• If the GLD software is operated without a USB Key (HASP) plugged into the workstation, the program will run in a "TRIAL" or "DEMO" mode.  Designs cannot be done in this mode,
• The standalone version of GLD will NOT work with a Network License key.
• The standalone version of GLD will NOT work if there is a Network key present anywhere on the same network.

Network License:

• The Network license is intended for environments where there can be one or multiple concurrent users.
• The Network license is broadcast throughout the network environment, rather than just to the workstation which has the USB Key plugged into it.
• The USB Key for the Network License version of GLD is generally installed into a server or workstation that is always running and is physically secured.  It is generally never moved.
• The machine that hosts the physical USB Key is the "server" for broadcasting the license information.
• The license information may be broadcast over a WAN or VPN to a properly configured remote location.
• The Ground Loop Design software runs on the local workstation, not on a central server.
• The license manager software runs on a the machine that is hosting the USB Key. 
• The number of concurrent users is limited by the number of licenses assigned to the Network License USB Key (HASP)
• A Network License key may be purchased to host up to 99 concurrent users.  Larger capacities are available by special request.  A large number of users is typical in an academic setting.
• A Network License may be authorized for as few as (1) users if safe keeping of the key and flexible use on different machines on the network is the goal.

The licensing system used by Ground Loop Design is from SafeNet Inc.   The driver software on workstations and servers is provided by SafeNet Inc. and is delivered via Microsoft update services.  Companies with multiple products that utilize the SafeNet HASP Keys are responsible to work with SafeNet Inc if specialized licensing services are needed.  Generally there is no issue with running multiple SafeNet HASP keys on the same server.
